Nippon 2014 Part III: Shopping paradise

OMG!

OMG!! First of all I'm truly, deeply sorry that I haven't posted anything for a long time!! But the thing is....... *cough* The Sims 4 and Destiny both were released early on this month so I've been doing nothing else than playing those games like 24/7 (work... what work?)! So sorry about that!! m(_  _)m But now I'm back in business!

As many of you know, I'm a very materialistic person and nothing puts me on a better mood than shopping some new figurines. XD Although I hate shopping for clothes or furniture or any other "normal" stuff, but oh boy how I get excited when strolling around Tokyo streets with a wallet full of money! That's when ALL the shopping starts to feel really necessary and nice... Because some day I might need a cover with 3D-boobs for my phone or a super cute cat paw massage... thing or.... err....!

Cool stand for glasses!

Figuurikaupat on kuitenkin se paras juttu ikinä ja mun lempparipaikat on ehdottomasti sellaset "kirpputorimaiset" kaupat, joissa ihmiset saa vuokrata lasikuution itelleen ja myydä siellä sitte mihin hintaan tahansa figuja ja muuta oheiskrääsää pois. Näistä tällasista kaupoista oon tehny melkeinpä aina ne parhaimmat löydöt ja tarjontaa on laidasta laitaan, kunhan vaan jaksaa koluta ne kopit kunnolla läpi. Sieltä löytyy usein myös sellasia figuja joita ei tavallisista kaupoista enää saa, mut esim. suositumpien hahmojen kohdalla hinnatkin saattaa sit olla melkosen kovia.

The best thing for me in Japan is ultimately the figure shops and especially these "flea market-style cubicle-stores" where you can rent your own cubicle and sell figures and/or character goods. I've found many great deals from these shops and the selection of figures is massive as long as you're willing to really go through all the cubicles. You can also find a very rare figures that are out of stock from everywhere else, although the prices might sometimes be much higher too.

Itse figujen ostaminen tapahtuu lapulla, joita löytyy pitkin poikin lasivitriinien seinustoja, joihin pitää kirjottaa lasikuution numero, esineen numero (kaikki tavarat on numeroitu) ja hinta.

The best cubicle shops can be found at Akihabara, in the new Radio Kaikan building which you cannot miss if you follow the Electric Town Exit from the Akihabara station. Another great shop is in Volks store which can be found next to the massive UDX-building. There are certain rules when shopping from these stores, but it's really easy when you get the hang of it. First you need to take a little piece of paper (they can be found all over the cabinets) and you have to fill the paper with the cubicle number, item number (all the items are numbered) and the price. When you've filled the paper with everything you want, just go to the cashier or to the waiting area near the cash register. Someone from the staff will come to you to collect all the items you've listed and tell you if there's something wrong with the item and so on. After that he/she will take you to the cash register where they pack carefully all your purchases and then you pay. Simple!

Cute staff members in the Radio Kaikan!

Nakanosta on tullu ihan vakiomesta jossa on reissun aikana käytävä ainakin kerran!

On sundays the main street in Akihabara is closed from traffic and people can roam around however they please but prepare yourself that the shops might get really cramped while the japanese are shopping on their day off. Almost all of the shops keeps their doors open normally on sundays too!

Another shopping paradise for otakus is the indoor shopping complex in Nakano (few stops from Shinjuku) called Nakano Broadway. There you can find 3 floors of figure-/toy-/idol-/doll-/anime- and mangashops under the same roof. There is also a couple great arcades where you can go play games or take purikura-pictures! The best time is on weekday before midday when there are very few people in there. Also many of the shops opens at 11-12 a.m so I recommend to go there around that time. Nakano is one of our must-go places while staying in Tokyo!

Esim. Nakanosta saattaa löytyä välillä puolet halvemmalla joitain figuja mitä Akibassa myydään ja vice versa. Eli suosittelen tosissaan tutkia ensin tarjontaa ja myöhemmin menemään shoppailemaan (tosin kyllä mullakin on monia poikkeustapauksia, joita ei vaan voi jättää hyllylle notkumaan....ehehe).

When it comes to the figure prices in Japan they can vary quite a bit from ridiculously cheap to ridiculously expensive. I really suggest to do a few scouting trips to the stores and just check and compare the prices so you can find the best deal for you. I.e. I have found many figures from Nakano much, much cheaper than in Akihabara, so if it's not The Holy Grail-figure in question, I highly recommend to do some price comparing before actual shopping (though, I know sometimes there's some figures you just CANNOT leave to the store... ehehe)!

Last but not least, more pictures yay!
